Married at First Sight Australia star Jake Luik departed the experiment via a “rule-break” as he left wife Ashleigh Ackerman.
The pair’s relationship came under strain after Jake made several disparaging remarks regarding his female co-stars, with Ashleigh subsequently labelling his comments as “nasty” and “appalling.”
After Ashleigh raised the comments to co-star Sierah Swepstone and the experts at the most recent commitment ceremony, Jake voted to leave the experiment after what he described as a “loss of trust”, though Ashleigh urged him to buck up his ideas as she voted to stay.

The new arrangement didn’t last long, however, with Tuesday’s (March 18) beginning with Ashleigh revealing that the pair had spent the night apart. After Jake returned and reiterated his desire to leave the experiment, the narrator noted that this constituted a “rule-break.”
“I lost a bit of the trust in you and that really hurt. Last night was a lot,” remarked Jake, with Ashleigh replying by saying that “nobody made you say those things” and that she was “glad” that she confided in her friends.

“Blaming the trust is a bit of a cop-out. He doesn’t want to face the repercussions of his actions to the group,” she said in the VT, before describing Jake as a “30-year-old man with the maturity of a teenager” whilst adding that she was “disappointed” in his actions.
Jake said in his own VT that he wanted to be “selfish” regarding his own needs and desires in the experiment before confirming that he would “stick” to his promise, expressing his own disappointment after claiming that Ashleigh didn’t make the experiment a “pleasant experience”.

Jake’s previous comments drew the ire of both his co-stars, experts and fans, with the groom saying that Jacqui Burfoot had “crazy eyes” and that Sierah had a “face that screamed that she would stab you at night”.
Furthermore, he said that Morena Farina was “too old” but that he “would’ve given her a fair crack back in the day”, before remarking that he “typically went for Caucasian women” when referring to Awhina Rutene, prefacing the statement by saying that he “wasn’t racist”.
Jake later expressed regret at his comments, telling the Daily Mail: "I know I shouldn't have said it, and I apologised immediately at the commitment ceremony. But they made it look like I took my time and didn't want to say sorry.
"The production crew weren't happy with anything I was saying. They told me, 'You need to spend 30 seconds on each girl and be more detailed', so I just said something stupid. My mouth works faster than my brain sometimes."
