Married at First Sight Australia continued its 12th season tonight, airing the second episode on E4 with two new couples, and one pair of newlyweds are heading for the rocks already.

While one set of newcomers — the tall and tattooed Dave and self-described "very Greek" chatterbox Jamie — looked like a fantastic match with a heartwarming ceremony, viewers weren't happy at how the other marriage turned out.

Both PE teacher Tim and restaurant boss Katie described themselves as unlucky-in-love, while Tim also described himself as a "nice guy" who has finished last on multiple occasions.

They seemed like another great pairing by the experts, but after a smiley exchange of vows and a first kiss, Tim's body language started to stiffen.

In a confessional, he told the camera that he was having doubts, although he tried to be diplomatic about it.

"Yeah I'm not really sure how to feel, I just haven't got that initial spark, but she's lovely," he said. "[She's] just not the per... just a bit different to what I'd normally go for, but yeah, she's lovely."

However, in a scene that followed shortly afterwards, he pulled a producer aside and was less nice about the situation.

"What the f**k? Totally not what I wanted. Not good," he said. "I normally go just short petite, blonde, brunette. Just no attraction – there's no attraction."

The producer replied that Tim doesn't even know his bride yet and should spend more than five minutes getting to know her, but he responded that: "I don't want to be here... I just feel like I've wasted my time, I just wanted to run away."

The awkwardness continued at the photoshoot, and while Katie initially played it off as him letting the nerves get the better of him, she then said in a confessional that it was "concerning" that he recoiled when she went in for a hug.

At dinner, he told his best man that he "wasn't feeling it" and quickly got up to walk around the room and talk to anyone else, and the penny seemed to drop.

"He's saying all the right things and being considerate, but I know there's something up," Katie said in a confessional. "There's, like, this weird energy, the facial expressions. Avoiding me the entire day."

At night, she spoke to him about his detached behaviour, and he just said that he felt "unease" about the process rather than her. In a confessional, she said she was thankful her concerns were "misimpressions".

However, she woke up the next morning and revealed that they had slept in different rooms and he knocked on the door and told her he felt "no spark".

"Why did this keep happening?" she said, in tears. "'Sparks' is just a cop-out for 'I'm not attracted to you'. I'm written off so easily... I was so hopeful and optimistic. It's just so disappointing."

The episode ended with them unsure if they'd go on their honeymoon together.

Viewers were not impressed by Tim's behaviour, stating on social media that he was an example of someone who calls themself a 'nice guy' but doesn't actually act like one.

"So Tim isn't the 'nice guy' after all," wrote one fan, while another said: "Always the ones that proclaim what 'nice guys' they are, f**king in the bin".

"Can you ever trust the ones that say they are 'nice' guys," someone asked, as another post indirectly answered it: "Anyone that tells you they are a nice guy multiple times, in my experience, is not."

"I'm fuming that this guy doesn't even want to get to know her. He's a idiot," wrote a particularly annoyed fan, while someone else said: "Tim 'totally not what I wanted!' This is not a mail order bride service or Amazon! It's an experiment, where the 'experts' choose someone for you, because what you normally did, wasn't working!"

Another viewer took a different approach, writing: "Protect Katie at all costs. What a beautiful person inside and out."

He wasn't the only man who complained about his match, as Eliot woke up the day after his wedding in a mood.

He brought up his list of "non-negotiables" from the previous episode and said that he wanted someone under 30 and felt like his bride Lauren has "some superficiality there".

A producer said the couple were still at the 'figuring out stage', and Eliot said he did agree with that but didn't sound completely convinced...
