"I've been a Prahran local renter before recently buying my own apartment, so I understand firsthand the challenges of rising crime, unaffordable housing, and high rents—and I'm ready to tackle these issues head-on," he wrote on his website.

"I'm determined to create a Melbourne that works for everyone, where the cost of living is manageable, housing is affordable, and crime is under control. Together, we will make this happen."

He added that his focus as a politician is tacking the "escalating cost of living, and rising crime rates, to the housing crisis."

Smith, who tied the knot with Lucinda Light on the 11th series of MAFS Australia, first shared his political ambitions earlier this year in a video shared on Instagram.

"I've officially thrown my hat into the ring to run for Minister of Parliament for the City of Melbourne for the upcoming federal election," he said.

He said that he was planning on announcing the news in "another way", but instead felt that he "had to get it out there and get going on our policies and where we stand".

Smith added: "You'll see a tonne more coming from me, both from this and other platforms.

"Look, let's make a change. The time is now I've got some more stuff to put out there. I am running for the office, so let's wait and see."
