Queer Eye star Tan France has debuted a new hairstyle, calling it his “mid-life crisis” look.

The designer and entrepreneur has appeared in all nine seasons of the Netflix reality show, where he serves as the resident fashion expert as part of the 'Fab Five.'

Though he may usually be the one offering advice, Tan took to Instagram on Wednesday (January 1) to unveil his shorter hairstyle with a selfie, writing: “New Year, New hair phase of my mid-life crisis.”

The post was greeted by friends and followers – and a famous face – in the comment section, with The Morning Show star Hasan Minhaj writing: “GONNA FOLLOW YOUR LEAD KING.” Tan replied in kind, writing: “@hasanminhaj no you are not?! I would love to see you with short hair!!”

“Looking hot, looking grown up but somehow younger, looking like our new Tan. ❤️❤️❤️❤️” commented Tan’s husband Rob, who he shares two children with and married in 2007.

“I will say your hair was every man’s dream including my husband 😂 but this does make you look so much younger. Either one you still look great!” wrote another user, with a second adding: “I love it! (Also, I don’t think there’s a hairstyle that wouldn’t look good on you!)”

“My jaw dropped. You look hot. I loved your hair before but this new look suits you well too!! Beautiful Tan!” commented a third fan, with a fourth remarking: “YES! 🙌 I never would have imagined you could look just as iconic with a different hairstyle!”

The ninth season of Queer Eye, which premiered last month, was the first to feature Jeremiah Brent after he replaced Bobby Berk – who announced his departure in January 2024 – as the Design expert.

“It's with a heavy heart that I announce that season eight will be my final season on Queer Eye,” said Berk in a statement. “It's not been an easy decision to be at peace with, but a necessary one. Although my journey with Queer Eye is over, my journey with you is not. You will be seeing more of me very soon.”

Queer Eye airs on Netflix.
