Love Island star Maura Higgins has addressed rumours she could replace Maya Jama as the ITV2 show's host.

Reports have recently circulated that Maya could be stepping away from the show, with former contestant Maura tipped as a potential replacement – though Maya has denied the speculation.

However, addressing the possibility of stepping into the host's shoes, the I'm a Celebrity star told Capital UK: "I mean what a massive compliment! I mean come on, Maya is just incredible, I'm very flattered that people think I could even take over from her.

"I mean she's smashing it and I honestly think she's there for the long run. She's such a queen and she's incredible at her job."

Maura, who has served as the social media host for Love Island USA, added: "I really do look up to her and hope some day I can be a really credible host like her."

Addressing the rumours she could be departing, Maya clarified on her Instagram Stories this week that she's going nowhere.

"I will be hosting Love Island next year and have no plans to leave right now," she wrote. "Filmed the promo a couple of days ago actually. Fake news is fake news-ing as usual."

In other news, Maura recently clarified her relationship status as rumours have swirled around a potential romance with Strictly Come Dancing's Pete Wicks in the last few months.

"Can I just set something straight – I don't have a mystery man. I don't. I'm single," she told Cosmopolitan UK.

"I think people are just very invested in my love life. But as you've all seen from the jungle, there's a lot more layers to me than the man I'm dating."
