Great British Bake Off viewers are a jolly lot, but they can be sadistic too.

The fans love a baking disaster, and the series 10 premiere taught us that they are even willing to crack jokes about the bakers' physical pain! We're so sorry, Michael!

In the very first Signature Challenge of the series, the bakers were asked to create traditional fruit cakes. Fitness instructor Michael Chakraverty was drawing on his Indian roots to create a Cup of Chai cake with Henna-inspired icing.

Disaster struck while he was sharing some advice from his mum, telling the camera that she'd texted him: "Be kind, be slow, be confident."

At that very moment as he was chopping ingredients, he managed to slice right into his finger! Michael immediately scrambled to stop the blood from pouring all over his chopped sweets.

"Oh my god, it's happened again," he panicked.

That's when the camera zoomed in to reveal that he'd already managed to slice into three of his fingers on the very first day in the tent!

As Health and Safety Officer Sandi Toksvig helped him bandage the wound, Michael assured himself: "It's gonna be fine. It's gonna be fine."

Those watching weren't so convinced. In fact, they are making some fairly grim bets on how he'll make it through the rest of the competition:

When it came time for the judges to weigh in on Michael's Cup of Chai tea cake, the injured baker actually got a very positive verdict.

"I think the flavour is absolutely lovely," Prue declared.

"I think you've created a very good tea cake," Paul praised him, with Noel adding: "Considering you only have one finger!"

The good reviews from Paul and Prue almost had Michael forgetting about his flesh wounds. Almost...

The baker joked: "Next one, I'll try not to cut off any more limbs!"

The Great British Bake Off airs on Tuesdays at 8pm on Channel 4.
