Ripper Street star Jerome Flynn has thanked fans for helping to bring the show back.
The period thriller - axed by the BBC in December - will get a third series as part of a co-production deal with Amazon Prime Instant Video - formerly LoveFilm.
In a post on his official Facebook, Flynn - who plays Bennet Drake - revealed that filming on the new episodes will start in May.
"It's wonderful news, and I want to thank you all for being such a huge part in getting the show back," the actor wrote.
Flynn added that Ripper Street had suffered "what felt like a premature death".
"I know everyone involved is keen to make [the new episodes] even better than the first two series and I really do believe we can do that," he continued.
