Channel 5 premiered its first big original drama Blood on Monday night (November 19), and viewers seem to think it has all the makings of a major hit.
A noirish thriller written by Sophie Petzal, Blood sees a woman by the name of Cat Hogan (Unforgotten's Carolina Main) return to her childhood home after her mum dies, supposedly from injuries sustained in a fall, but she soon becomes suspicious of the circumstances surrounding her death – and of her father in particular (Line of Duty's Adrian Dunbar).
Describing it as 'compelling', viewers took to Twitter to heap praise on the new show, which is said to be part of a rebrand for Channel 5 as it attempts to introduce a different calibre of content.
One viewer tweeted: "#Blood was hugely compelling with smartly drawn characters, an intriguing plot and strong performances. I hope this does well for Channel 5 because it's exactly what they should show more of."
While another wrote: "Been looking forward to #Blood on Channel 5 and wasn't disappointed. Tense, twisty and compelling. Impressive cast doing justice to @Sonic_Screwup's sharp, lean writing. Completely hooked."
Another thoroughly-impressed viewer praised the show's characters and cinematography, writing: "This is promising. #Blood looks like it's going to be a dark, dark tale. Very good so far. Antipathetic yet compelling characters, beautifully shot."
