Warning: if you haven't seen Doctor Foster series two yet, turn away now as there are big spoilers ahead.
Doctor Foster series three may or may not happen, but if it does, its creator Mike Bartlett has an idea of where it will be heading.
At the end of series two, we saw son Tom finally reach his limit with his feuding parents as he ran away, with Gemma (Suranne Jones) ending the show pleading for him to come back.
"That ending of series two leaves a lot open to come back to: where has the son Tom gone and what's happening to him?" Bartlett told the Radio Times. "What happens to the parents? That's the sort of story territory we'd be in, but it's not written yet."
Indeed, Jones previously said there had been no talk so far of making a third outing of the BBC show, and the writer was treading cautiously on the subject as well.
"No-one has ever put pressure on me to make more of it," Bartlett continued. "I think the BBC would rather I did something new, but if we do bring Doctor Foster back it will only thrive if we do it at the right time."

However, Jones also has ideas about possible storylines should the third series get the green light, and it would involve healing her relationship with Tom.
"Obviously I want Tom to come home, for her," she said. "I think it would be nice if they rectified their relationship. I don't know what her and [ex-husband] Simon's relationship would be, but it would be nice for her and Tom to rectify that."
