Suranne Jones might have confirmed there's been no talk about a third series of Doctor Foster, but that doesn't mean she's shy about revealing her hopes for the show.

Having won Best Drama Performance at the National Television Awards, Jones confirmed that Gemma Foster is "on hold for a while" in an interview with Radio Times.

Asked about a potential third series, she added: "Obviously I want Tom to come home, for her."

Gemma's troubled son Tom decided to leave home at the end of the BBC One drama's second series, having been caught up in a tug-of-war between his feuding parents.

"I think it would be nice if they rectified their relationship," Jones said. "I don't know what her and [ex-husband] Simon's relationship would be, but it would be nice for her and Tom to rectify that."

Doctor Foster's series two finale hints heavily at reconciliation between Simon and Gemma, revisiting happier times before her discovery of his affair.

And while his desperate pleas for another go at their marriage fall on deaf ears, the last time we see them together, they're united in their concern over their missing son.

"Tom's gone, so there's a question mark," writer Mark Bartlett said back in October. "Clearly there's potential there [for a follow-up]. But obviously there would have to be lots of conversations."
