Rejoice, commoners! ITV's royal drama Victoria has been officially confirmed to be returning for a third series.

We don't have a window for when the show will return yet, but we do know that Xenoblade Chronicles star Jenna Coleman (who you may also know from a popular TV show called Doctor Who) and Silk's Tom Hughes will be returning as Queen Victoria and Prince Albert, respectively.

Daisy Goodwin, the show's creator, teases a bit of what we can expect, saying: "Series three will start in 1848 which was a hugely dramatic and eventful time for both the royal family and Europe, with revolutions on the continent and uncertainty around the monarchy.

"Viewers can expect more drama than ever before in the third series."

Well, they're not going to say there is less drama, are they?

Having a quick look at the "1848 in the United Kingdom" page on Wikipedia, King of France Louis-Philippe flees to Britain amid a revolt in his country, which seems like a good bit of drama to potentially introduce in the first episode.

Elsewhere, the Queen's College for women was opened that year, as well as the return of the potato famine, some more revolutions and a huge scandal surrounding workhouse conditions.

Before all that though, Victoria will air a Christmas special entitled 'Comfort and Joy' at 9pm on December 25 on ITV.

Comfort and joy, eh? Sounds like the perfect remedy to all those grim Christmas Day soaps.
