Doctor Foster series 2 is set to FINALLY return to TV tonight as everyone's favourite jaded doctor battles to reassemble her life after being cheated on.

Suranne Jones popped onto the couch with Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield on This Morning to speak about her comeback.

However, could it all be coming to an end soon? Well, the actress hinted that she might like to take a step behind the camera instead.

Holly and Phil were obviously aghast at the suggestion, but Suranne admitted she had been enjoying her production work, as she's credited as associate producer while playing Gemma Foster in series 2.

When asked if she preferred it behind the camera to acting, she said: "A little bit, maybe. I love the development. I'm so lucky to work with writers like Mike Bartlett and Sally Wainwright last year.

"I produce stuff. I produced the last Scott and Bailey. I'm kind of learning. I wasn't very good at school, [and] I feel like I'm kind of at school and doing all the academic stuff behind the camera and I really like it."

Suranne also echoed her comments from the Radio 1 Breakfast Show, where she explained she initially wasn't keen on the idea of making a second series.

She said: "When people love something so much, you don't want to disappoint. I don't want to do a second series just because it's successful. And [This Morning] talked about infidelity – it's a serious subject to some people and I didn't want to just do another one."

But the creators explained to Suranne: "Well, no-one covers divorce and what that does to a child and what that does to a couple when you can't actually divorce, when you're still parenting."

And she added: "I thought that's an important programme to make."

Doctor Foster returns to BBC One tonight (September 5) at 9pm.
