Comedian and Comic Relief presenter Joe Lycett has been trying to spread an interesting rumour about The One Show host Matt Baker and, er, a pigeon.

Yes. You did just read that right.

According to Joe, it seemed totally appropriate to try and tell The Sun that Matt Baker got so heated on a phone call he decided to kick a pigeon on the streets of London.

But wait, it gets crazier...

Joe thought the perfect time to own up to an act of such nonsense would be while sitting face-to-face with Matt on The One Show. Yes, live TV.

The comedian appeared on The One Show tonight (alongside James Blunt) to discuss his contribution to Comic Relief for Red Nose Day this coming Friday.

Amongst talking about the funny and incredible things he is doing for the charity (like running a Pizza Express with the help of Micky Flanagan), Joe decided to fess up to Matt about this random fake news story and how it epically failed before it even had the chance to make headlines.

"I've been trying to sell news stories to a newspaper of things you haven't done," Joe told Matt.

After seeing the clip of Joe revealing his naughty act on 8 Out of 10 Cats, Matt responded to Joe with a big smirk on his face: "I am flattered to be a source of your comedy. But where does this all stem from?"

"Why me?" Matt asked.

Joe quickly tried to salvage his reason for choosing Matt as the victim of his fake animal cruelty story.

"Basically the image of you kicking a pigeon is really funny," said Joe.

"You are so lovely that you would never obviously do that. And you come across so well on screen and as a human."

Joe then went on to joke about how The Sun had offered him £1,000 for the full image, and suggested if Matt was ever short for cash he potentially has somewhere to seek a quick income.

Don't worry. Matt, being the happy-go-lucky guy he is, found it very funny and intriguing (in a good way).

The only publicity it got prior to tonight was when Joe appeared on 8 Out of 10 Cats. He revealed what The Sun thought of his breaking story...

Responding to him within two minutes, The Sun apparently emailed him to say: "Joe. Kicking a pigeon?

"That is pretty shitty from a One Show bloke. Can you send the pictures?"

Joe replied claiming he would not send the full images until he got an offer in the form of money in return. He did, however, send them a crappy cropped shot of just a pigeon.

Believe it or not, The Sun didn't buy into it.

However, it looks like Joe seems pretty invested in Matt after tonight's show...
