The Fall punched us in the gut (not literally!) once again tonight (October 13) with perhaps its most bleak episode yet.

Following on from last week's controversial amnesia twist, Stella Gibson (Gillian Anderson) and the Metropolitan Police are basically spinning their wheels with a serial killer who doesn't actually remember his crimes. Or does he?

While The Fall's latest run has come in for its fair share of criticism, fans still seem completely transfixed by Jamie Dornan's unsettling portrayal of killer Paul Spector.

Halfway in to what is being billed as The Fall's final series (for now), let's gauge reaction as the doom-and-gloom engulfing Stella Gibson's investigation nears its climax.

Given all the love for Jamie Dornan as a sociopath even creepier than Mr Grey, it's a shame that Paul Spector's story will apparently be wrapped up once and for all by the end of series three.

We might see more of The Fall in some new form down the line - although probably not in the immediate future.

Series creator Allan Cubitt recently told Digital Spy: "I don't think I'm giving much away in saying it's Jamie's last season. But that's not to say that we wouldn't do more of The Fall.

"I do have some thoughts. But I'm quite keen on doing other things as well, so it's not going to be straight away."

For now, The Fall continues next Thursday (October 20) at 9pm on BBC Two.
