The Fall is finally back on screens after an interminable two-year wait.
Thursday's (September 29) episode was as intense as ever, as serial killer Paul Spector (Jamie Dornan) fought for his life in the aftermath of the shootout in the series two finale.
Paul's shooting leaves detective Stella Gibson (Gillian Anderson) in the bizarre position of hoping against hope for him to live, even after spending two series trying to bring him to justice.
We won't spoil any of the surprises here (check out our review for a full rundown), but we will give you the first impression from fans who tuned in for the long-awaited return of The Fall. It was a bit of a mixed bag, as it turns out.

What to Read Next
While there are sure to be many surprises ahead, Jamie Dornan has sadly confirmed that this will be his swansong portraying the sadistic killer who's haunted our nightmares for years now.
"It's a job that means a lot to me, and a character that I really love playing, and a group of people that have become family over four and a half years, so it's very bittersweet," he recently told Digital Spy.
"It's like a support blanket that someone's taking away from you – quite abruptly!"
Although we'll likely see the last of Jamie Dornan on The Fall this autumn, producers haven't yet ruled out bringing the series back at some later point.
"I do have some thoughts," The Fall creator Allan Cubitt told us about the show's future. "But I'm quite keen on doing other things as well, so it's not going to be straight away."
For now, The Fall continues on Thursdays at 9pm on BBC Two
