If Jamie Dornan had his way, it sounds like The Fall series three wouldn't be the final outing for the popular BBC show.

That's after he described the role of Paul Spector, the world's most handsome serial killer, as the job that "changed my life".

"They're like family to me and I'm forever grateful for it to be a part of my life and, you know, I would play that character to my dying days if I had the opportunity," Dornan said, via PA.

He went on to tease the upcoming series: "You can expect the unexpected. There's quite remarkable turns in the third season that I really genuinely think people won't see coming that are hugely exciting."

Last month, the BBC released first-look images of Dornan and co-star Gillian Anderson, who plays DSI Stella Gibson, in the final series.

Unless there's some flashback storytelling going on, the images confirm that despite finishing the last series shot by the thuggish Jimmy Tyler (Brian Milligan), Spector is alive and well.

Colin Morgan's DS Tom Anderson will also appear in The Fall series three, alongside the likes of John Lynch as Stella's lusty colleague Jim Burns and Valene Kane as Spector survivor Rose Stagg.

One person who won't be back is Archie Panjabi as she confirmed in June that she won't be returning to The Fall for its final series - but will be tuning in as a fan.

The Fall will return to BBC Two this autumn. Watch a moody teaser for series three below:
