Josh Widdicombe is one of the names that's been linked to the new Strictly Come Dancing hosting job in recent weeks, with reports also suggesting that Emma Willis is on the cards to replace Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman in one of the biggest jobs on telly. So could these two be the new duo, to welcome us onto the ballroom on Saturday nights?

Now the popular comedian and Taskmaster star has indicated that there may not be truth to the rumour about him, warning: "Do not believe what you read in the papers."

During an appearance on Good Morning Britain this morning, hosts Susanna Reid and Ed Balls put the question to Josh Widdicombe, putting the pressure on. All the chatter around the subject even pushed Susanna to tell her co-host Ed to "pipe down", so they could get to the bottom of the rumour.

But the Last Leg host seemed to do his best to remain non-committal and side-step the subject.

"It's lovely to be linked with the role," he said, cryptically. "I think it's an impressive thing to have on your CV, being linked to Strictly. I think I'd do a lovely job."

Josh also went on to name all the qualities he would look for if casting for the roles, putting it back on Susanna and Ed as being the "perfect" pairing. Of course, Susanna was quick to rule that out, saying that they had not been approached.

There has been a lot of speculation about who will be officially named as the new presenters of Strictly Come Dancing, following Tess and Claudia's exit at the end of the last series. They made their final Strictly appearance together on the famous BBC dance floor in the pre-recorded Christmas special, which aired in December.

Fleur East, the popular host of spinoff It Takes Two, is one of the latest stars to have ruled herself out of the running, admitting that she was "kind of bothered" not to get it, but later adding that it had "gone to the right person" (seemingly referencing reports that Emma Willis was about to be confirmed).

Zoe Ball, radio presenter and former It Takes Two host, also recently revealed that she isn't going to be the new host.

"I didn't get it, but it's okay," Ball said, in an episode of her Dig It podcast with Jo Whiley (via The Sun). "I have worked through the seven stages of grief and rejection over the last couple of days."

The BBC has yet to make any official announcements when it comes to Tess and Claudia's replacements, and in response to the many rumours have said: "Plans for Strictly Come Dancing 2026 will be confirmed in due course."
