Martin Compston has shared an "exciting" update on Line of Duty's return. The BBC show was recently confirmed to be making a comeback after months of rumours, with the actor set to reprise his role of Steve Arnott alongside Adrian Dunbar as Ted Hastings and Vicky McClure as Kate Fleming.
The actor has now opened up a bit about the new season, revealing on Radio X that "some of the other cast they've got coming in is quite exciting".
While he didn't reveal who exactly will be joining the ensemble, the show has showcased an impressive calibre of guest stars in the past, including Lennie James, Kelly Macdonald, Thandiwe Newton and Stephen Graham.
Further teasing the episodes, Compston said that creator Jed Mercurio has "got a great story", adding: "It’s exciting. Like, it’s a real page turner already!"
He also addressed the delay between seasons, admitting: "We always thought we'd do another one, but we just didn't want to give people false hope and say, 'Look, we're doing one' and then, as it has been, it's been five years."

Upon the show's return announcement last month, Compston called Line of Duty "a job of a lifetime", saying: "Not only in terms of the show's success but the people I’ve had the opportunity to work with I now call some of my closest friends.
"I can’t wait to pull the waistcoat on again and get the team back together."
Mercurio added in his own statement: "Everyone involved in Line of Duty feels enormous gratitude to the show’s fans. We’re privileged to have had so many of you follow the ups and downs of AC-12 over six previous seasons and we couldn’t be more delighted to be returning for a seventh.
"Corruption in this country is supposed to have come to an end while Line of Duty was off air so I’ve been forced to use my imagination."
Work is set to get underway on the show's seventh season next spring in Belfast, though Compston admitted he wasn't sure whether it would premiere in 2026, revealing the show bosses "like to take their time".
Line of Duty seasons 1-6 are streaming on BBC iPlayer. Season 7 is yet to confirm a release date.
