Vicky McClure and Martin Compston have each reacted to Line of Duty's long-awaited return. Taking to Instagram on Tuesday (18 November), Vicky, who is set to reprise her role as Kate Fleming in season seven, kicked off the celebrations.
Sharing a video alongside her co-stars, Compston and Adrian Dunbar, McClure captioned it: "News that makes you want to dance!! Back with my besties!!!! Line of Duty 7." Meanwhile, Compston, who portrayed Steve Arnott, posted a selfie of the trio. "Now we're sucking diesel!" he quipped, a reference to one of Ted Hastings' (Dunbar) most iconic lines in the show.
After months of speculation, the BBC finally confirmed that Line of Duty would return with a new six-part series this week. Slated to begin shooting in Belfast in the spring, an exact release date is yet to be announced.
Joining McClure, Compston and Dunbar, the show's creator, writer and executive producer, Jed Mercurio, is on board, and will helm the next instalment. "Everyone involved in Line of Duty feels enormous gratitude to the show's fans," he said.
"We're privileged to have had so many of you follow the ups and downs of AC-12 over six previous seasons, and we couldn't be more delighted to be returning for a seventh. Corruption in this country is supposed to have come to an end while Line of Duty was off air, so I've been forced to use my imagination."

Meanwhile, Compston added: "Line of Duty has been a job of a lifetime. Not only in terms of the show's success, but the people I've had the opportunity to work with, I now call some of my closest friends. I can't wait to pull the waistcoat on again and get the team back together."
Echoing this sentiment, Dunbar noted: "As we count down the AC12 days of Christmas, what a joy it is to know that the Three Amigos will be back filming together next year. Delighted with the news and looking forward to those mercurial twists and turns."
Season seven of Line of Duty has yet to receive a release date.
