ITV's streaming service ITVX has set a first-time record, thanks to some new dramas and returning favourites.

The broadcaster announced that it has achieved the milestone of one billion streams in one quarter (three months) for the first time ever.

James Norton's Playing Nice and Siobhan Finneran's Protection have done incredibly well on the service, and sit as ITV's second and third biggest dramas ever, after Mr Bates vs the Post Office.

The sixth season of Unforgotten has also performed strongly, with ITV calling it "the biggest returning drama on any channel or streaming platform this year".

Overall, drama was streamed over 300 million times during the quarter, nearly a third of ITVX's total.

Entertainment content was streamed 133 million in the quarter, up 22% compared to the same period last year thanks to things like The 1% Club, The Masked Singer, and Britain's Got Talent.

Soap viewing was up an even bigger 35% compared to last year's first quarter, due to the 7am early release of episodes. The overall total number of streams is a bit lower, at 124 million, but there's only Coronation Street and Emmerdale factoring in here.

Meanwhile, Love Island: All Stars garnered 100 million streams by itself, the biggest single title of the year and the strongest performer in the 16-34 age category.

"New high quality drama, week in week out, the best Saturday night entertainment, big live sporting events, our soaps on great form and more — it's the breadth of our offering to audiences, in key genres, that has driven this record quarter," ITV boss Kevin Lygo said.

"We have totally transformed our streaming offer with ITVX over the past couple of years, and all our teams internally, alongside the best producers in the business, have helped deliver these brilliant numbers, by producing, promoting and delivering this fantastic content to audiences to stream."

Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX.
