The BBC has shared a first look at its upcoming drama The Bombing of Pan Am 103.

The six-part series – which was previously titled Lockerbie – will follow the devastating true events of the 1988 Lockerbie bombing, which saw a bomb explode on a flight from Heathrow to JFK over the small Scottish town of Lockerbie, killing 43 Brits and 190 Americans.

The series will centre on the two nations' joint investigation into the bombing, from the initial exhaustive search for evidence on the ground in Scotland, via the US and Malta to the trial at Camp Zeist in 2000, leading up to the upcoming new trial in the US.

It will also explore the "human impact" it had on investigators, as well as the "devastating effect it had on the small town and the families who lost loved ones".

The BBC has now shared a set of first look images from the series, featuring Sex Education's Connor Swindells in action as DS Ed McCusker, as well as Patrick J Adams as FBI Special Agent Dick Marquise, Tony Curran as DCI Harry Bell, and Peter Mullan as DCS John Orr.

The Bombing of Pan Am 103 comes after the release of Sky's Lockerbie: A Search for Truth in January, which also dramatised the tragic events.

The series stars Colin Firth as Jim Swire, a father who embarks on a journey across three decades for answers about the bombing in which he lost his daughter Flora.

He stars alongside Slow Horses' Catherine McCormack, who plays Jim's wife Jane Swire.

The Bombing of Pan Am 103 will air on BBC One and iPlayer, before heading to Netflix globally.
