Beyond Paradise star Barbara Flynn has called for the return of Peter Davison's character Peter despite him being "awful".

The third season of the Death in Paradise spin-off is set to be released next week with DI Humphrey Goodman and his team tackling a brand new slate of cases.

As we get ready for a fresh helping of mystery and intrigue, actor Flynn has shared that she would like to see Peter, played by Davison, return to the show.

Her character Anne began online dating in season two after losing her husband, meeting "Richard" who seemed to be the perfect partner.

Though he broke Anne's heart, Flynn would love to see his character walk back into her life after his marriage revelation saw his swift exit.

On working with Davison, Flynn told Radio Times: "It was amazing, really, because Peter and I go way, way back.

"So it was an absolute delight to know that he was going to come in and play this character, which I was going to get involved with."

"Lots of people kept saying to me, 'He was a rotter and awful, but we want him back'. I agree. I think the character should come back in some way, shape or form."

Davison has hinted that he would be up for reprising his role, telling Virgin Radio: "Barbara and I did sit there working out ways in which we thought of getting the story to continue is that he would end up in jail, and that Barbara could go and visit him and have that kind of romance that some women do with people in prison."

He continued: "I remember talking to Ben Miller, who found the schedule in Death in Paradise a bit relentless.

"I'm always up for a challenge. So in no way would I rule it out, but I think the chances are they may go for someone a bit younger."

Beyond Paradise and Death in Paradise both air on BBC One and stream on BBC iPlayer.
