Return to Paradise star Anna Samson has confirmed that season three of the Death in Paradise spinoff has officially wrapped filming. The DS Mackenzie Clarke actor dropped a post on Instagram, sharing several shots of herself and cast members on and off set.

Samson captioned the post, saying: "Shooting on Return to Paradise season 3 wrapped last week!", before revealing that season three's stories will be "bigger and braver, and asks more of its characters than ever".

She went on to praise her colleagues, adding: "A huge congratulations to the entire team for the work that went into it. I adore each and every one of ya. We can't wait to share it with you… sometime down the line."

The actor then joked: "I barely took any photos because there were so many murders and waistcoats to be getting on with… and I was constantly misplacing my phone."

The second spinoff of the original BBC series was hailed as 'better than Death in Paradise' by one fan on IMDb, who shared: "Anna Samson as DS Mackenzie Clarke is most impressive as the tenacious detective on loan from the British police."

Their praise was shared by others who rated the series ten out of ten. One called it "full of charm", while another described it as being "unexpectedly excellent".

However, the series has also divided viewers as some felt the show was "underdeveloped".

Earlier this year, the BBC shared a synopsis for the upcoming third series. It revealed that Mackenzie would have a hard time putting the fallout from the second season finale behind her, despite her resolve to move on.

"DS Mackenzie Clarke is back, fresh from having wrecked another of Glenn's (Tai Hara) weddings and determined never to follow her heart again. But ignoring her heart won't be easy," reads the logline.

The arrival of her force-of-nature mother Jillian (Kerry Armstrong) puts Mack's mettle to the ultimate test, and there's something undeniable about the raffish charm of the new pathologist Leo (Jacob Collins-Levy). And as for Glenn, who has gone away to 'find himself', well that's a whole other puzzle for Mack to try and solve…"

The series' production company Red Planet expanded further, promising fresh new cases set to mystify armchair sleuth enthusiasts.

Season three will also welcome a new host of guest stars including Mark Lee, Tina Bursill, Ngali Shaw, Anthony Hayes, Zöe Ventura, Zindzi Okenyo and Matt Day.
