A compelling BBC drama starring Sharon Horgan and Michael Sheen has found a new streaming home.

Best Interests follows married couple Nicci (Horgan) and Andrew (Sheen) who are parents to Marnie (Niamh Moriarty), a young girl with a rare form of muscular dystrophy who ends up in hospital after contracting a chest infection.

Doctors believe it would be in her best interests to stop treatment and allow her to pass away, however, Nicci and Andrew disagree. Their fight for Marnie's life takes them through legal proceedings as well as the ethical and moral battles they face over Marnie's quality of life.

After the four-part series aired on BBC One and BBC iPlayer, it is now finally available to watch for US audiences on Acorn TV.

It continues: "In its sensitive exploration of a complicated issue, Best Interests does not preach. That's not to say that it hasn't got something to say for itself, but what you take away from it is bound to be subjective."

Best Interests comes from Jack Thorne, the writer behind This Is England, The Virtues, and Help.

Speaking about how she became involved with the show, Catastrophe and Motherland star Horgan said it took some convincing for her to sign onto the project.

"Initially, it was talking to Jack Thorne that made me want to do it because I genuinely had been a fan of his for so long, wanted to work with him for ages, and love his writing," she told Collider.

She continued: "I’d been a fan of Michael Sheen for years and I loved the idea of playing opposite him. But it was mid-Bad Sisters when it came in and I was like, 'How is that gonna work?' And they were like, 'Oh, they’ll wait for you. You’ll have a couple of months off.'

When she finished starring in Bad Sisters, Horgan shared that she told her agent she "hadn't got it in her" to appear in the emotionally charged Best Interests, but a meeting with director Michael Keillor "convinced her".

Best Interests is available to stream in the UK on BBC iPlayer, and in the US via Acorn T.
