Death in Paradise actress Josephine Jobert reached out to her former co-star Shantol Jackson to share her heartfelt praise following her recent interview on BBC's The One Show.

Jobert, who starred as fan-favourite DS Florence Cassell, took to Instagram to comment on the shared interview saying: "My queen! You also carry the show so well. Proud of you!"

Her warm message was in response to Jackson who complimented the new lead detective actor Don Gilet for how well he had slotted into the show.

"He's a really good number one," said Jackson, who plays DS Naomi Thomas. "He carries the show well. He cares about the characters and he cares about the story, so it's good fun on set with Don."

When asked what it has been like to adapt to a new lead since the departure of Ralf Little, who played detective inspector Neville Parker, Jackson said: "It's fine actually. I think the main thing for us was to ensure that Don felt comfortable because it's not about any one person.

"Death in Paradise is a massive show. I didn't even realise how big the show is and so we realised we need him to feel comfortable to get everyone to still love the show and so that was the main thing for us."

She went on to explain that the cast were also keen to make sure that Don was at ease so that the "chemistry of the show [could] continue," but stated that Gilet was quick to adapt.

"Two weeks into filming the Christmas special he was fine. We have great banter on and off the set. Don is really fun to work with."

The most recent episode of Death in Paradise saw Gilet's DI Mervin accept a three-month contract at Saint Marie's police force so that he could look into the death of his mother.

During an interview on ITV's Lorraine, Gilet broke down how Mervin's journey would shape season 14 in a different way to the previous seasons: "I think what is different about this one is that there is an arc. There is a personal journey that is going on with the detective because he is originally there to find his mother."

Gilet elaborated further, sharing that after finding out about his mother's death, Mervin is compelled to stay in Saint Marie despite his reservations.

"He has to stay there in this place. He has tried to leave. He has all that struggle going on and he doesn't like these people because he doesn't want to be there."

Filming for season 15 of Death in Paradise is set to begin in April 2025.

Death in Paradise and its spin-off, Beyond Paradise, both air on BBC One and stream on BBC iPlayer.
