Mums of Murderers, a new true-crime video series from Best, explores the consequences and judgments faced by those women whose children have committed terrible crimes.
The series, hosted by Nick Ferrari, interviews four such women whose sons or daughters have been convicted of murder.
The first episode, which launched today (Tuesday 4 Feb) can be seen above. It contains an in-depth interview with Elizabeth De Zoysa, whose son Louis – currently suffering from brain damage – is serving a whole-life term for killing police officer Sergeant Matt Ratana.
One question underlying the series is: how do you go on when your child becomes a murderer?
"When you have a child," Elizabeth says in the interview, "no-one says to you, you can only love your child if they go down this path. I wouldn’t have abandoned him as a baby and I wouldn’t do that now."
The mothers in the series have all faced judgment by society for the crimes of other people, and have to find a path for themselves through the aftermath.

"Some friends didn’t know how to approach me," Elizabeth continues. "Some blamed me… Some were very supportive. As a mum, I’m thinking could I have done things better.
"You run through your mind the things you could perhaps have done better, and I didn’t want to face that being said by friends."
Mums of Murderers is on Best's YouTube channel every Tuesday and is available as a podcast on all the usual platforms.
