Death in Paradise has confirmed a host of guest stars for the new season, as well as an all-important return date.

The show's new episodes will mark the first full season for new DI Mervin Wilson (Don Gilet), having made his debut in the recent Christmas special.

The BBC has now revealed that season 14 will premiere on Friday, January 31 at 9pm on BBC One.

The broadcaster has also announced which guest stars to expect, revealing that Kingsman's Tobi Bakare will be back as Sergeant JP Hooper.

Also set to appear are Sex Education's Patricia Allison, McDonald & Dodds' Tala Gouveia, Emmerdale's Simon Lennon, EastEnders' Madeline Appiah and Judith Jacob, Coronation Street's Bhavna Limbachia and Wicked's Adam James.

Other guest stars include David Mumeni, Michelle Greenidge, Joy Richardson, Stephen Odubola, Anthony J Abraham, David Avery, Sofia Oxenham and Imogen King.

Siobhan Redmond, Chantelle Alle, Rita Bernard-Shaw, Hollyoaks' Bobby Gordon, Casualty's Tony Marshall, Charlotte Spencer, Holby City's Trieve Blackwood-Cambridge, Gerard Horan, Lily Nichol, and Lyndsey Marshal are also on board.

"Following the recently cracked case of 'who shot the Santas?', along with the revelation that his estranged mother has passed away, Mervin is ready to get back home and leave the island for good," the synopsis reads.

"But when a case close to the hearts of those at the station presents itself, is he tempted to extend his stay?"

The new episodes will also see Commissioner Selwyn Patterson "deal with momentous news from the Chief Commissioner in Jamaica that rocks the police department to its very core", while Mayor Catherine "acts as the last line of defence in a battle to save the team as we know it" after "an unexpected foe attempts to enforce the unfathomable".

Additionally, Naomi "finds herself at an emotional crossroads when an old flame from St Barnabas makes a surprising appearance on the island", and Darlene "becomes a mentor when a new officer joins the ranks, but is left questioning whether she’s the right person for the job".

"And with the opportunity to learn more about his mother’s life, Mervin begins to discover things may not be all that they seem in Saint Marie. As everything he thought he knew unravels, will his life ever be the same again?"

Death in Paradise will return on Friday, January 31 on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
