Michelle Keegan will be back for season two of Ten Pound Poms, and now the BBC has shared some first official stills of the upcoming episodes.

The new images show the returning main characters of Kate Thorne (Keegan), Annie Roberts (played by Black Mirror's Faye Marsay) and Terry Roberts (The Responder's Warren Brown) who are all back for the second season.

Ten Pound Poms will pick back up with nurse Kate and the Roberts family, who made the move to Australia under the promise of a better life with more opportunity. Set in 1957, the continuing story will see them struggle to reconcile that hope with the harsh realities that they are facing down under.

The first-look stills also introduce some new characters, who have joined for the second series. This includes the Skinner family, who have arrived to Australia from Ireland.

It was previously revealed back in April that the post-war period drama had started filming, with a photo of the leading actor on set being released at the same time. Production on season two wrapped in Australia earlier this year, and a release date is yet to be confirmed by the BBC.

Ten Pound Poms – which became one of the UK's biggest new dramas of last year, based on launch viewing figures – was created and written by executive producer Danny Brocklehurst. He also previously teamed with leading star Michelle Keegan on Sky's award-winning comedy Brassic as well as Netflix's hit Fool Me Once, which now sits in the countdown of Netflix's most-watched series of all time.

Brocklehurst has worked on a number of Harlan Coben's Netflix series, and Coben previously shared how much they would "love" to have Michelle Keegan back for a future adaptation of another one of his novels.

"I think what Michelle has, besides tremendous talent and all the other stuff, is a genuine authenticity," he previously told Digital Spy. "I think people, the audience, loves her, people want to follow her life, because they sense that there's a kindness and a gentleness. And that's really her, she's truly authentic."

Ten Pound Poms season 1 is available now on BBC iPlayer, with a release date for season 2 not yet confirmed.
