Slow Horses season 4 finale spoilers follow.

Slow Horses star Saskia Reeves has explained how that "big loss" in the season 4 finale will impact the next season.

The newly-aired episode saw the death of Marcus Longridge (Kadiff Kirwan), who has been a mainstay of the show since the second season.

Speaking exclusively to Digital Spy about the scenes, Reeves – who plays Catherine Standish on the Apple TV+ show – compared the death to that of Min Harper (Dustin Demri-Burns).

"We all knew that there was going to be a big loss at the end of four, as there was at the end of two with Min," she said.

"That's another element of fun. Which characters will survive? A new character comes in, how long will they stick around for? It gives the series a chance to work with lots of other brilliant actors and really interesting characters."

Reeves went on to tease that Marcus’s death will have "a profound effect on everybody" in "many different ways".

"Min's death has had a profound effect on Ros's character, and will continue to do so," she noted. "David's dementia is having an effect. You see it in the Park, the way people come and go, the way power is handed over and taken away and the effects of that."

Slow Horses' fourth season debuted last month to a perfect score on Rotten Tomatoes, with many critics suggesting that the show continues to operate at a top tier.

In Digital Spy's five-star review, we said: "While we will never get over the wrong place, wrong time loss of Min – and there's even more heartbreak ahead in season four – for a show predicated on its slowness, it ushers in new characters with such paced skill, it hasn't lost us as certain favourites head out into the cold."

Slow Horses seasons 1-4 are streaming on Apple TV+.
