This Morning's Martin Lewis has opened up about the "raw" loss of his mother in an emotional TV appearance.

The Money Saving Expert founder and The Martin Lewis Money Show host was on yesterday's (September 24) edition of the ITV show, speaking with Ben Shephard, Cat Deeley, Annabel Croft and Agony Aunt Deirdre about grief.

Martin talked about how it was recently an anniversary of his mother's death, and how he still struggles with it.

"It's 40 years this year since my mum was killed and it's still just as raw 40 years later," he said as he started to get visibly emotional. "The one thing I always think, because I was in tears on the anniversary this year, don't feel guilty about being happy.

"When people are feeling grief they have a happy moment and feel guilty, and they stop themselves. The thing is, whenever you have the chance to feel happy during grief, grab it."

Martin apologised for getting upset and said he wasn't on the show to talk about it as Ben comforted him and said that his advice might be really helpful for anyone else who has lost a parent at a young age.

Back in February, Martin hosted This Morning for a week, after telling producers that presenting it was on his bucket list.

He insisted that it was just a one-off thing, which lines up with what he said last year, when he was rumoured to be a permanent host after the departures of Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby.

This Morning airs weekdays on ITV from 10am, while The Martin Lewis Money Show episodes can be watched via ITVX.
