Ripper Street returned for its second series with 5.08 million viewers on Monday, overnight data reveals.

The BBC One drama was the biggest draw of the night outside of soaps, with a 22.8% audience share. However, it was down around 30,000 viewers from its last episode in February.

On BBC Two, University Challenge quizzed 2.86m (12.3%) at 8pm, while Tom Kerridge's Proper Pub Food interested 2.09m (8.9%) at 8.30pm.

Iceland Foods continued with 2.16m (9.7%) at 9pm, followed by Never Mind the Buzzcocks with 1.04m (5.8%) at 10pm.

ITV's new Robson Green series Tales from Northumberland attracted 3.57m (15.5%) at 8pm (125k/0.6% on +1). Documentary OCD Ward appealed to 2.74m (12.3%) at 9pm (215k/1.4%).

On Channel 4, Dispatches brought in 1.09m (4.7%) at 8pm, followed by Health Freaks with 981k (4.2%) at 8.30pm (122k/0.6%). 999 gathered 1.23m (5.5%) at 9pm (261k/1.7%), while Embarrassing Fat Bodies intrigued 907k (5.9%) at 10pm (203k/2.6%).

Channel 5's Gadget Show was seen by 669k (2.8%) at 8pm (108k/0.5%). Pickpockets & Proud continued with 1.37m (6.1%) at 9pm (135k/0.9%), while Under the Dome thrilled 1.00m (6.1%) at 10pm.

BBC Four's Only Connect stretched 828k (3.5%) at 8.30pm. On Sky1, the latest Arrow was seen by 404k (1.7%) at 8pm.

On E4, Made in Chelsea entertained 493k (3.1%) at 10pm (129k/1.6%). ITV2's Peter Andre: My Life brought in 667k (3.0%) at 9pm (138k/0.9%).
