Doctor Foster's Suranne Jones takes command in a brand new look at new BBC One thriller Vigil.

Jones and Line of Duty's Martin Compston have resumed production this week near Glasgow on the six-part series, about the investigation into the disappearance of a Scottish fishing trawler and a death on board a nuclear sub.

In a first-look image released today (August 21), Jones takes control of the investigation as DCI Amy Silver, along with Chief Petty Officer Elliot Glover (Endeavour star Shaun Evans).

Their investigation into two separate sea-fairing mysteries threatens to uncover a deadly dispute between police and the military at the very centre of Britain's nuclear deterrent.

Joining a cast that already includes Jones's former Doctor Foster co-star Adam James, Bodyguard's Anjli Mohindra and Game of Thrones' Rose Leslie will be fellow former Thrones cast members Stephen Dillane and Daniel Portman.

Other new cast members are Lois Chimimba (Trust Me), Lorne MacFadyen (Outlaw King), Lolita Chakrabarti (Riviera), Stephen McCole (River City), Tom Gill (Peterloo), Anita Vettesse (The Loch), Bobby Rainsbury (Call the Midwife), Cristian Ortega (Beats) and Lauren Lyle (Outlander).

What to Read Next

The series comes from BAFTA-nominated writer Tom Edge, a veteran of both The Crown and Strike.

"Tom Edge has created a thrill of a story, set in a world I knew nothing about," Jones has said. "The cast and crew World Productions have put together to tell this story is so exciting. Amy Silva is a brilliantly complex character, thrown into a highly charged situation where her authority is weakened.

"We watch as she navigates her own personal trauma and loss, all at a time when she's questioning her relationships and life choices. It feels fresh and relevant and I can't wait to start filming."

No premiere date has been announced for Vigil yet.
