The End of the F***ing World star Jessica Barden has admitted that she thought about not returning for season 2.

Jessica Barden plays Alyssa on the Channel 4 and Netflix series, but despite the show's enormous success and cult following, she recently revealed she briefly considered not returning for its second run, which will launch next month.

The reason? At 27 years old, Jessica said she'd started to feel "insecure" about playing the teenaged Alyssa – but said the show's time jump helped to convince her to return.

"I wasn't going to do this, I just realised," Jessica told Metro.co.uk.

"It's not like I wasn't going to do it, but I did have a really long time, about a year before I came back and did it, I did start to feel insecure about it because I felt I was so much older than the characters," she continued.

"I think the only thing that writer Charlie Covell told me in advance was she was making the character older to deal with more adult things.

"Because I was kind of like, I can't really play a teenager anymore. So she told me that side of it."

The End of the F***ing World season 2 picks up two years after the first season, and will also introduce a new killer called Bonnie (Naomi Ackie), who's described as an outsider with a troubled past and a mysterious connection to Alyssa.

A trailer for the new season has left fans with one big question, which will hopefully be answered along the eight episodes.

Or, you know, in season 3.

The End of the F***ing World series 2 premieres with a double bill on Monday, November 4 on Channel 4 in the UK. In the US, you'll be able to watch on Netflix from Tuesday, November 5.
