Five's new talent show Don't Stop Believing debuted to over 1.4m viewers on Sunday evening, according to overnight audience figures.
Presented by former Spice Girl Emma Bunton, the programme - which searched for Britain's best all-singing, all-dancing group - was watched by 1.43m (6.6%) on Five between 7pm and 8.30pm.
Afterwards, The Wedding Singer and Not Another Teen Movie secured respective audiences of 995k (4.3%) and 580k (4.8%) between 8.30pm and 12.15am.
Over on ITV1, 5.88m (24.2%) tuned in for the return of axed '60s drama Heartbeat, with 144k tuning in on (0.6%) on HD. At 9pm, veteran crime drama Taggart took 4.98m (21%) from 9pm, while 111k (0.5%) watched in HD.
BBC One's latest Antiques Roadshow was watched by 4.48m (22.6%) at 7pm, before a screening of Pirates Of The Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest secured 3.2m (13.5%) between 8pm and 10.15pm.
BBC Two was boosted by the television premiere of The Damned United, which averaged 3.02m (13.5%) between 9pm and 10.30pm, with 208k (0.9%) choosing to watch the film on BBC HD. Top Gear brought in 5.71m (23.5%) from 8pm, up 2.62m on last week's broadcast when the show was up against the World Cup final.

Big Brother attracted 2m (8.4%) to Channel 4 between 9pm and 10pm, with a further 341k (1.8%) watching the programme on timeshift. Alan Carr: Chatty Man followed with 1.52m (8%) and 198k (1.9%) on +1. Earlier on the channel, Dispatches: Catching The Gun Runners pulled in 990k (4.1%) in the 8pm hour, with 156k (0.7%) tuning in an hour later.
Overall, ITV1 dominated primetime with 19.9% against BBC One's 15.6%. BBC Two came in third with 14.8%, followed by Channel 4 with 6.6% (+1: 0.9%) and Five with 5.1%.
Elsewhere, a double bill of brand new Family Guy appealed to 764k (3.5%) and 841k (4.5%) at 10pm and 10.20pm respectively. Meanwhile, More 4's Come Dine with Me marathon grabbed 566k (3.4%), 637k (3.5%) and 685k (3.6%) between 5.45pm and 7.25pm.
