If you weren't impressed by Apple's most recent offering, there's a strong chance you decided to look elsewhere instead of waiting for the iPhone 8.

A quick glance at rival smartphones may have even led you to Google's standalone offering, the Pixel - a device which sits atop the Android tree, along with Samsung's S7 and S7 Edge.

It's not all unadulterated glory, though. Following recent reports of a lens flare issue, a fresh problem has come to light regarding the device's camera.

As Google product forums user Mike Fox (no, not the Back to the Future guy) explains, his Pixel XL camera has started to freeze intermittently when in use.

This malfunction sets in shortly after "pink/purple vertical lines" appear across the screen when using the camera viewfinder, with Fox also indicating the device "ends up with large blocks moved randomly around the screen".

So, what's the problem here?

Well, it's not entirely clear, but it seems as if the camera issues are related only to Google's camera app, with Fox experiencing no problems when downloading a third-party alternative.

That would mean this could potentially be resolved through a software update, and doesn't lie within the more serious realm of hardware.

The thread also contains several other users who detail a familiar problem, though Google is yet to provide comment or a fix for the problem.
