13 best movie Lego sets that definitely aren't just for kids
The Lego Movie reignited our childhood love for tiny multi-coloured bricks, then The Lego Batman Movie took it to another level.
But there are tons of movie-based Lego sets out there. You can build your own DeLorean, populate the Star Wars universe (old, new and newest) with minifigures, and head to Middle-Earth and Jurassic World. Here are the coolest Lego sets replicating your favourite movies...
Guardians Of The Galaxy
Cosmic anti-heroes Star-Lord, Gamora, Groot and Rocket feature in three kits – Milano Spaceship Rescue, Starblaster Showdown and Knowhere Escape Mission. And if Guardians 2 is more your thing, get stuck into The Milano Vs The Abilisk, Ayesha's Revenge or Ravager Attack. Or just make up your own stories.
Arkham Asylum
Batman has been around in various guises since 1939, but he found fresh life in The Lego Movie thanks to Will Arnett's brilliant portrayal of a self-absorbed Caped Crusader, which led to his own spin-off, The Lego Batman Movie. There's plenty of Batman Lego out there, the most impressive of which is this Arkham Asylum replica, compete with supervillains.
Jurassic World
The CUUSOO line took a Jurassic Park submission in 2013, but it wasn't able to hit the 10,000 vote mark in order to get considered for production. But who cares, when Jurassic World brought us kits including Raptor Escape, Indominus Rex Breakout, T Rex Tracker, Raptor Rampage, Dilophosaurus Ambush and Pteranodon Capture. You can even get your own Dr Wu minifigure!
This recreation of Shaun of the Dead's zombie-ravaged Winchester pub was submitted as an idea through CUUSOO, and even managed to hit the 10,000 voting approval minimum. Sadly, Lego rejected the idea because "good though the model is, the film Shaun of the Dead contains content that is not appropriate for our core target audience of children ages 6-11". Spoilsports!
Death Star
The Empire's space base Lego includes more than 20 minifigures (among them a trash compactor monster!) and stands an impressive 16 inches tall. There's incredible detail on this set, but we haven't yet been able to spot an unconcealed hatch for Luke to blast the whole thing to smithereens.
Avengers Assemble
Joss Whedon's Avengers climaxed with an epic battle to save New York, and Marvel fans can get in on the action with this official Quinjet set featuring Thor, Iron Man, Black Widow and Loki. The Quinjet itself isn't too shabby, either, with adjustable wing tips, detachable mini-jet and some heavy missile firepower.
The Lego Movie
Everything really is awesome about this Lego model for MetalBeard's Sea Cow ship. Impressive as this is, it's the little details that really make it – can you spot Emmet's double-decker sofa? There are two more Lego Movie sets on the market as well: the Super Secret Police Dropship and the Flying Flusher.
Ewok village
Return of the Jedi's Ewoks may be much maligned, but when you line them up against Jar Jar Binks and his prequel ilk, they don't seem quite so bad. Here's a chance to relive the final moments of the original trilogy closer, complete with elevating throne. Jub-jub!
Ghostbusters' firehouse
I ain't 'fraid of no small, upturned plastic bricks that may turn up underfoot in the kitchen and cause me enormous pain. Well, actually I am. So I'd better make sure this amazing replica of the Ghostbusters' HQ doesn't get demolished by an interdimensional cross-rip of any kind. It comes with Peter Venkman, Raymond Stantz, Egon Spengler, Winston Zeddemore, Janine Melnitz, Dana Barrett, Louis Tully, Library Ghost and a Zombie Driver, plus Slimer and pink and blue ghosts.
