After launching in October 2022, the Google Pixel 7 and the Pixel 7 Pro were two of the best smartphones you could buy. Since then, the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro have knocked them off the top spot as the best Pixel phones, but they're still very worthy handsets in 2024.
There's good reason to buy the previous generation because while you can find Pixel 8 deals, they are still quite pricey — the Pixel 7 phones are much cheaper. The 7-series smartphones aren't that different to the Pixel 8 devices either, and they still hold their own against the iPhone 15 and the best Samsung phones.
The Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro boast impressive camera systems, cool AI features like Magic Eraser and Live Transcribe, solid performance and super sleek designs. If you're after a big screen and the best camera with a zoom lens, go for the Pixel 7 Pro. Or if you'd rather have a more pocket-friendly handset, the Pixel 7 will be the better choice.
It's worth pointing out that the Google Pixel 7 isn't always stocked by all retailers now, but you'll reliably be able to find the Google Pixel 7 Pro. We last checked stocks and prices on April 18 2024.

Are the Google Pixel 7 smartphones worth buying in 2024?
Yes! Despite being an older generation, the Pixel 7 and 7 Pro are still worth buying in 2024.
The Pixel 7 series isn't that different from the Pixel 8 series and will get software updates until the end of 2025 as well as security updates until 2027.
Because of that, we think the Pixel 7 and 7 Pro are two of the best iPhone alternatives you can buy in 2024, particularly if you want flagship-level features on a budget.
Google Pixel 7 vs Google Pixel 8
The Pixel 8 improves on the Pixel 7, but they aren't all that different.
The Pixel 7 has a slightly bigger screen, a smaller battery and weighs more than the Pixel 8. The camera system is about the same, although the Pixel 8's main lens has a wider aperture so it can let more light in than before. The Pixel 7 comes in Snow white and Lemongrass yellow colourways, whereas the Pixel 8 is available in Hazel green and Rose pink.
The Pixel 7 Pro's screen isn't as bright as the 8 Pro despite being the same size, and the new handset features a 48MP ultrawide lens instead of the 12MP shooter that was there before. The 7 Pro came in Snow white and Hazel green colourways and have been replaced by Porcelain white, Bay blue and Mint green for the Pixel 8 Pro.
The Pixel 7 and 7 Pro are powered by the Google Tensor G2 processor, whereas the 8 and 8 Pro use the latest Tensor G3 chipset.
In terms of software, the new 8 series devices ship with the Android 14 operating system, whereas the Pixel 7s come with Android 13. But that's not a huge issue because you can update it to the latest version when you first boot up the phone.
