When Xander invites Bree to join their lunch date, Rose feels her suspicions confirmed. A chatty Bree declares that Xander is quite the hot topic amongst the nurses at work. Quick to set the tone, Rose blurts out that Xander is definitely single. A good-humoured Bree takes it in her stride. An embarrassed Xander sets the record straight for Rose – Bree is married and they're just friends.
Meanwhile, after confessing that Marilyn is her mother, Heather and Nikau are closer than ever. Touched that Heather would share her vulnerability with him, Nikau goes above and beyond to make Heather feel supported — especially since everyone else in Summer Bay seems to have a problem with Heather.
John is still simmering over his slashed tyres, refusing to believe that Marilyn is the culprit. Feeling targeted over the slashed tyres, Marilyn avoids her friends. When a heartfelt John believes Marilyn is innocent, Marilyn is touched to have someone defending her honour. In pursuit of justice, John decides to report his slashed tyres to the police.
On police business, Rose interviews Heather about the attack on John's car. When Heather becomes flustered, Nikau intervenes on Heather's behalf with a false alibi – they were at his house watching football together. A sceptical Rose presses Nikau to put this claim into an official statement.
A sensitive Marilyn observes Heather's distress and learns that Heather slashed John's tyres. Nikau makes an impassioned plea to Marilyn, asking why she is forcing Heather into secrecy. Feeling guilty, Marilyn decides to make a sacrifice for her daughter, claiming herself to be the slasher of John's tyres.
Elsewhere, Dean clocks Tane's buoyant spirit and wonders what has got him so sprightly. A chuffed Tane admits that Ziggy gave him some great advice. A giddy Tane lets Dean in on his big news – he's going to propose to Felicity. Getting the family on board is Tane's priority and Nikau is elated for his uncle.
