Jasmine gets some distressing news – Robbo's mother has had a heart attack and needs help. Jasmine desperately tries to contact Cash, but he's not answering her calls. Running into a jumpy Rose at the Diner, Jasmine asks after Cash. Feeling guilty, Rose claims not to have seen him.

Unsure of how to keep his night with Rose a secret from Jasmine, Cash continues to ignore Jasmine's calls. Felicity encourages him to bite the bullet and face Jasmine before things get worse. Cash worries that the truth could threaten Rose and Jasmine's tentative sibling relationship. Felicity is shocked by Cash's rationale: sometimes you've got to do the wrong thing for the right reason.

Felicity confronts Rose about the situation with Cash, but Rose warns her to mind her own business. Cash's plans to be honest with Jasmine are thwarted when Jasmine announces that she's leaving Summer Bay to look after Robbo's parents after the heart attack.

Tying up her loose ends, Jasmine asks Cash to look out for Rose and Xander while she's away. Not wanting to taint their goodbye, Cash bites his tongue, promising to keep the family together until Jasmine returns.

Trying to put the issue to rest, Cash decides to tell Jasmine when she returns to Summer Bay. Felicity is aghast at Cash, equating his omission of the truth to lying. Felicity poses a question to Cash – does Rose know it's just platonic between them? Cash is rattled at the suggestion. He hadn't considered that.

Meanwhile, despite Marilyn's vigilant note-taking, Alf is concerned that running the caravan park and bait shop in his absence will overwhelm her. Marilyn gets off to a rocky start when she accidentally over-orders bait, forcing Irene to let her store the surplus in the Diner freezers.

Promising there will be no further mistakes, Marilyn resolves to keep her mishap concealed from Alf. Pasting on a smile, Marilyn sends Alf off to Merimbula. But after a sequence of disasters, Marilyn admits to Irene that she can't handle it. Thankfully, Irene has a plan – they can put together an ad for a handyman.

Elsewhere, pulling together a united front for Mackenzie's sake, Ziggy and Dean avert their issues. Mac rebukes them for this and encourages them to face their problems head-on.

Feeling chastened, Ziggy and Dean agree to sit down and discuss their issues. Ziggy cuts to the chase – she can't be with Dean if he's a River Boy. Uncompromising, Dean refuses to cut them off, as the River Boys have been like family since he was a kid. Ziggy declares they don't have a future if the River Boys are in it, and storms out.

Later, Dean apologises for keeping Ziggy in the dark about the situation with Nathan. He doesn't want her to worry about his safety, and he'd do anything to make her happy. But he can't change who he is, and he's a River Boy. Ziggy needs to either accept him as he is or let him go. Taking that in, Ziggy decides Dean is worth it – she accepts him as he is. The couple fall into a loving kiss, back where they want to be.

Later, Dean gets a disturbing call and seeks out Mackenzie. The real estate agent called with bad news: Mackenzie is 6 weeks overdue in rent and being evicted in 7 days.
