Gemma is cautious over the leased house Tane organised for the whole Parata family. Ari tries to talk to Nikau about his future, and when they make their way back to Marilyn's, they notice Gemma and Tane coming out of a house across the street. The family learn Tane has rented the house for them, but Ari is unconvinced he has used conventional ways to gain it.
Ari reminds Gemma of their pact in the wake of Mikaere's death – to stay legit and out of trouble for their family's sake. Ari confesses to Mac about how Tane changed after Ari went to prison. The path Tane is taking is a concern for Ari, who believes he's heading into dangerous territory which may get him killed.
Mac urges Ari to see that Tane's behaviour may be the result of not having his older brother influencing him, which prompts Ari to move into the family home and protect them all.

Meanwhile, the news of the Paratas moving out is a bitter pill for Marilyn to swallow. She immediately turns to John for comfort. John is still sceptical about the Parata family but is happy to have Marilyn begin making an effort for their marriage again.
