Evan is trying hard to ingratiate himself into Ryder's life, but Ryder is still putting up barriers. Sceptical of his motives, Ryder challenges Evan to confess to why he's so keen on being in his life now.
Roo eventually approaches Evan, telling him that maybe it's best if he leaves Ryder alone. Evan reveals the shocking news that he's dying.
Meanwhile, Ari isn't happy about moving into the new home provided by Tane. Tensions are high when Ari accuses Tane of making money through illegal means. The two end up in a shouting match, until Gemma intervenes to calm things down. The next day, Ari decides to make a peace offering and the two of them dig a hangi pit together.
