After being missing throughout most of Friday night's (July 5) Emmerdale, Lydia Hart gave viewers a shock as she turned up to hand herself into the police.

On Thursday, it was revealed that the human bones discovered at the school earlier this week belonged to a baby and that the mother was a 16-year-old girl named Jenny Finn – who is actually a young Lydia (Karen Blick).

Lydia's big secret was rumbled as Sam Dingle (James Hooton) broke the news about the bones belonging to a baby, with Lydia looking distressed. The scene then cut to the police station, where they'd managed to find a photo of their top suspect, Jenny Finn.

In Friday's episode, as her face was splashed on the front of the local newspaper, Lydia was nowhere to be seen. Sam worried she'd walked out on him because she no longer wanted to marry him.

The villagers recognised the newspaper picture as Lydia, but Sam was reluctant to accept her involvement and he just wanted to find her.

However, as we saw at the very end, Lydia decided to hand herself into the police.

"I'm the woman you're looking for," she told the officer. "It's mine. I'm Jenny Finn."

Viewers were pretty stunned by Lydia confessing to police...

What next for Lydia? Who could be the father of her baby? And – perhaps most importantly – why was the baby buried in the first place?

Emmerdale currently airs weekdays at 7pm on ITV, with an extra episode at 8pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
