Emmerdale newcomer Amanda Donohoe has defended her fellow cast members.

The Hollywood actress claimed that some people in the industry look down on soap acting, believing that it does not warrant the same merit as movie or drama work.

Donohoe dismissed the assumption, telling The Times: "I can tell you right now that it takes a great deal of talent, experience and good acting to get through it.

"I wouldn't hesitate to use these actors in any other format because they're bloody good at what they do."

Donohoe's first appearance as Natasha Wylde will air on January 15.
