Coronation Street’s Lou Michaelis is being held in custody, and could be behind bars for the foreseeable future.
Not only did she lose her rag and give Gary Windass an almighty whack over the head, she’s also implicated in husband’s Mick’s doomed prison break, which ended in a violent showdown that sealed the villain’s fate.
She’s no saint, but if Lou ends up getting convicted from her charges, we must admit we’d be sorry to see the back of her.
Okay, so that’s a controversial opinion not shared by most people on the street – mardy Maria will throw a party if a ‘guilty’ verdict is delivered – but Inside Soap has really warmed to Lou these last few months.
And here's why we think Lou should stick around on the cobbles…
1. We love a nightmare neighbour
Mr and Mrs Michaelis crashed onto the cobbles like a hurricane earlier this year, with Mick and Lou reminding us of when the Battersbys brought their brash brand of chaos to Corrie back in the 90s.

Every soap needs their ‘neighbours from hell’ to create conflict and give the community a shot of disruptive drama. Walford’s Slaters, Emmerdale’s Dingles and Hollyoaks’ McQueens might not be the family you’d like to live next door to in real life, but we just can’t get enough of them on our tellies.
2. She's full of northern spirit
While many clans like the Michaelis family went from loathed to loved as they revealed a softer side, there’s obviously no redemption for meanie Mick after he killed our Craigy (RIP).
Lou, however, has all the makings of classic Corrie heroines like Becky, Karen and Leanne, lairy but likeable lasses who sum up what Weatherfield is all about – strength, sass and northern spirit.
3. Her reputation is redeemable
Lou has made mistakes but the backstory explaining her and Kit’s teen romance, and her struggle with Mick’s abuse, make us feel empathy for her.
Of course she should pay for her crimes, but she just needs a kindly Corrie soul to give her a chance at starting over. Maybe Roy needs a hand in the café?
Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX.
