Coronation Street star Claire Sweeney has addressed her split from boxer Ricky Hatton.

The pair both appeared on Dancing on Ice in January. Ricky and his professional partner Robin Johnstone were eliminated first, before Claire and her partner Colin Grafton left the show two weeks later.

After hanging up their skates, the pair confirmed their romance at the opening of Manchester's new Co-op Live area in April.

However, they have now gone their separate ways after eight months, with Claire revealing that she remains "friends" with Ricky.

While attending the opening night of The Devil Wears Prada musical in the West End on Sunday (December 1), she told The Sun: "We're still friends. We were friends, we dated, then we're friends again. It's all good."

Claire previously opened up about her relationship with Ricky in July, revealing that they had struck up a bond after knowing each other for years.

"I've known him for 25 years or so, we kind of always passed each other during events," she said during an appearance on Lorraine.

"Do you know what? He makes me laugh, that's it. I first met him in La Manga in the early 2000s, then we did Dance for Comic Relief together in 2013."

"Then we met on Dancing on Ice and it's great... He makes me laugh and we both like Only Fools and Horses, so what's not to like!" she added, with Lorraine Kelly replying: "I would say to all guys out there, if you want to impress a woman – make a girl laugh."

Elsewhere, Claire's character Cassie Plummer has recently been causing havoc on the cobbles in a shock new poisoning story.

Last month, Ken Barlow informed Cassie that he couldn't afford to keep her on as his carer, before she secretly spiked his tea with crushed tablets.

After being rushed to hospital, a worried Ken offered to pay Cassie an extra pound per hour to keep her job after all.

"I think Cassie will go to any lengths to keep this going," Claire previously said. "She's not poisoning him with the intention to harm him, it's just to keep him a little bit dopey, so he keeps her on, so he needs her."

Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX.
