Dancing on Ice star Mark Hanretty has marked his departure with an "end of an era" statement.

The professional skater announced last year that he would be exiting the ITV series after the recent season, having been a mainstay of the show for 14 years.

Mark has now shared a new Instagram post, which includes various clips, noting that it is the "end of an era" for him.

In one clip, Mark thanks people behind the scenes for their work, sharing in the comments: "I wish I could thank each and every one of the amazing production who have made my time on Dancing on Ice so memorable.

"I could post about you every day for weeks and still have more to say! However, I hope you all know I was thinking of you when I hurriedly said this on air!"

Writing in the comments, Mark's celebrity partner from this year, Michaela Strachan, said: "We may not have won the trophy, but I won the best prize, being partnered with the nicest and kindest man on ice. Couldn’t have wished for anything better than experiencing this crazy journey with you."

Bille Shepherd, who was partnered with Mark in 2021, added: "Congratulations to you for all of your amazing DOI achievements you have been incredible."

Mark originally announced his departure alongside fellow pro Brendyn Hatfield in October, saying at the time: "This will be my last year as a pro skater and I’m eager to soak up every second of it! Good luck to all the team and here’s to a fantastic series!"

Dancing on Ice airs on ITV1 and ITVX.
