In celebration of Gay Pride Month this year, Ariana Grande is the first big name to write a letter to her fans who are members of the LGBTQ+ community.

Part of the 2018 series of love letters published by Billboard, Grande wrote about growing up with her brother, YouTube star and Celebrity Big Brother contestant Frankie Grande, who is gay.

Grande, who last month showed off her bee tattoo for the victims of the Manchester terror attack, began: "There is nothing more infectious than the joy and love that the LGBTQ community exudes.

"I grew up with a gay brother whose every move I would emulate. I idolized him. Everything Frankie did, I would do.

The 'No Tears Left to Cry' singer added that her family were never afraid to discuss sexuality and gender openly while she and her brother were growing up.

She revealed that she was taught how to do her makeup by the "queens" she met in gay bars in New York City while appearing on Broadway as a teenager.

She said: "My music being embraced and celebrated by the LGBTQ community is all I ever truly cared about when I thought about my career goals early on."

Grande went on to discuss the importance of music in bringing people together.

"Love is like music. It knows no boundaries and isn't exclusive to any one gender, sexuality, race, religion, age or creed," she wrote.

"It's a freedom and a delicious luxury that all people should be able to sink into and enjoy every moment of.

"I am eternally indebted to and inspired by the LGBTQ community. I hope to create anthems for you that wrap you up with comfort and make you get your best life for as long as I live. Thank you for celebrating me the way I celebrate you."

She then added, "I love you forever."

More new love letters are expected to be unveiled throughout Gay Pride Month.

Britney Spears was one of the celebrities who took part in the project last year, writing a hand-written note for her LGBTQ+ fans in June 2017, which she shared with Billboard.

Spears wrote in her love letter to the community: "This is my letter of love to all my LGBTQ fans. Continuously throughout my career, you've always been so vocal about what a positive impact I've had on you -- that I've instilled joy, hope and love in you at times when there was none. That my music is an inspiration. That my story gives you hope.

"But I have a secret to share with you. You see, it's actually you that lifts me up. The unwavering loyalty. the lack of judgment. The unapologetic truth. Acceptance!

"Your stories are what inspire me, bring me joy and make me and my sons strive to be better people."

The pop star, who will be touring across the UK this summer, then signed off her message, "I love you. Britney."

Other letters last year (which you can read here) came from a number of other big stars, including Barbra Streisand, Elton John, Jennifer Lopez and Kelly Clarkson.
