The Vampire Diaries star Zach Roerig has been arrested for driving under the influence (DUI), it has been reported.

People have a statement from the police department in Montpelier, Ohio that states he was arrested and charged at around 2.30am local time last Sunday (May 24).

The publication details that the "probable cause" of him being stopped was no front licence plate, and that DUI is the highest level of misdemeanour charge in the state.

As well as his main role as Matt Donovan on The Vampire Diaries and its spin-offs The Originals and Legacies, Roerig has also appeared on As the World Turns, Friday Night Lights and the short-lived teen drama Dare Me, which was cancelled earlier this year after one season.

At the time of writing, neither Roerig or his representatives have publicly responded to the incident.

The second season of Legacies was one the shows interrupted by the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, meaning that the final four episodes of the season are currently uncompleted and unaired.

Sadly this includes the musical episode (season 2 episode 19) which would have been a look back at the entire franchise thus far. We are sure that it will air one day, but it's a bit up in the air at the moment.

Legacies airs on The CW in the US.
