Marvel's Daredevil: Our favourite moments from season one

All the best moments from Marvel, ABC and Netflix's comic book drama.
By Advertisement - NetflixPublished: 06 May 2015

The long-awaited Marvel's Daredevil has finally hit our screens. Charlie Cox stars in Marvel, ABC and Netflix's show as lawyer-turned-vigilante Matt Murdock alongside a stellar cast including Deborah Ann Woll, Elden Henson, Rosario Dawson and Vincent D'Onofrio.

If you're anything like us, you will have binged the whole 13-episode season on Netflix already. Here are our favourite bits from Marvel's Daredevil. (Warning: Contains many spoilers)

Marvel's Daredevil: Everything you need to know about the Man Without Fear

The corridor fight

One of the most physically impressive moments in the show has to be this contained but intense sequence.

On the trail of a kidnapped boy, Matt Murdock finds himself facing off against a group of armed thugs in two small rooms and the corridor between them. Shot in one take, the battle keeps going and going long after we would have dropped to our knees in exhaustion.

Collapsed lung

What to Read Next

Episode two of Marvel's Daredevil introduces the wonderful Rosario Dawson as nurse Claire Temple, who patches up Matt after finding him battered and bruised in a dumpster by her apartment building.

Matt comes close to death quite a few times, but possibly never so near as when his lung collapses. This episode shows just how much our hero gives of himself in his fight for Hell's Kitchen.

Say the name

The criminal mastermind of the show initially lurks namelessly in the background, pulling strings and scaring his subordinates. So much so that when a petty thug is forced to speak his name, he kills himself rather than facing the consequences.

This contrasts sharply with the introduction of the seemingly refined Wilson Fisk in the very next scene, revealing a man of many faces.

Foggy steps up

Foggy Nelson isn't the brooding and confident figure that his partner Matt is, which tends to lead both us and the other characters of the show to underestimate him.

Just when it looks like his big shot lawyer ex is about to stomp all over him, we get a flash of Foggy's metal. And boy, is it satisfying.

Will he be ready when the doors open?

The show tends to stick to grounded crime drama and the fight between Daredevil and Wilson Fisk, but if you pay attention, there are some deeper mysteries lurking around the edges. Just who is Madame Gao? And Nobu's ninja organisation? We have our suspicions.

Matt's former mentor Stick's meeting with an unnamed ally is probably the biggest tease of what Marvel, ABC and Netflix have waiting in the wings.

Lies uncovered

Matt has been keeping secrets from everyone - secrets that were bound to come out in the long run. No one has been kept in the dark longer than Foggy, and he does not respond well to having been played for a fool.

Charlie Cox and Elden Henson play this encounter to perfection, culminating in a point where we were convinced Matt was on the edge of bursting into tears. It's a particularly powerful moment in the show.

Stilt-Man

In true Marvel fashion, the series is peppered with Easter eggs from its shows, films and comics.

The one that seems to have everyone most excited is the glimpse of part of oddball Daredevil villain Stilt-Man's armour in Melvin Potter's workshop. We're not sure if we'll see any more of him, but we can dream, right?

Karen Page shooting

There are shocking moments aplenty in the show, and as we head towards the climax they come thicker and faster.

The most shocking of them all could be Karen Page's showdown with Wilson Fisk's right-hand man, James Wesley. We expect he found it pretty shocking, too.

Sage advice

Money man Leland Owlsley may be a self-obsessed creep, but he's not without his own brand of wisdom.

"Maybe this isn't the best time to be beating your men to death," he tells Fisk about a violent show of rage. Words to live by for would-be crime lords everywhere.

Don't mess with Madame Gao

We had a strong feeling throughout the series that Fisk's secretive Chinese ally was one to watch out for. Fisk certainly shows her more respect than any of his other associates, and we figured there was a good reason for that.

When Daredevil goes up against her, Gao's power is confirmed for all witnesses.

The costume

It had to be coming. The classic Daredevil suit was teased throughout the show, giving it more grounding than the average 'I sewed this together in my bedroom' outfit.

We think it was worth the wait.
