Film and TV is guilty of instilling us with wanderlust, throwing up amazing locations from all over the world and leaving us wishing nothing more than to jump straight on a plane to distant climes.

Here are some stunning destinations from movies and shows (all ready to check out on Netflix now) that have us eyeing our suitcases with longing:

What to Read Next

The Florida Keys - Bloodline

An amazing chain of tropical islands hanging from the tip of Florida, connected by a series of bridges running all the way to Key West and frequently offering amazing views of both sunrise and sunset.

It's the perfect temperate getaway, as long as you don't get entangled with the dysfunctional Rayburn family, that is.

New York City - Manhattan

From the opening peals of Gershwin's 'Rhapsody in Blue', Woody Allen classic Manhattan is pure New York City from head to toe.

Diane Keaton and Meryl Streep swan through the busy streets beneath stunning skyscrapers, and it's hard not to feel the urge to join them.

Tokyo - Lost in Translation

Sophia Coppola's off-beat comedy follows the lonely wanderings of Bill Murray and Scarlett Johansson in a city very far from home.

But at the same time it reveals the unfamiliar beauty of Japan's capital, tearing through its streets, gazing out at night-time vistas from high hotel windows or... golfing beneath Mount Fuji. It certainly fuels our desire to go.

Anchorage, Alaska - Into the Wild

Sean Penn's 2007 drama sees Emile Hirsch retire from the modern world into the seclusion of the Denali National Park and Preserve in Alaska. It's a hard life but beautifully showcases the region's wildlife and endless fields of snow.

As an added bonus, the film also follows some of our travelling hero's other adventures, so there's plenty of inspiration to be had.

Paris - Le Week-End

Prepare to be utterly charmed by Lindsay Duncan and Jim Broadbent in this romantic drama, with Jeff Goldblum popping up to join them.

And where better to rekindle the spark of their flagging marriage than in Paris? Follow them down the Champs-Élysées while the Eiffel Tower and Arc de Triomphe hang, iconic, in the background. Let's just hope that their relationship survives the experience.

The Poles - Frozen Planet

We would be remiss to write about the wonders of the world without mentioning the adventures of David Attenborough, right? This documentary series takes us north and south to the snowy landscapes at the very ends of the Earth.

With these regions under threat, we're sorely tempted to visit these frozen landscapes and their incredible inhabitants while we still can.

Portland, Oregon - Portlandia

Known as a haven for alternative lifestyles, Oregon's City of Roses promises a relaxing visit full of long hikes, coffee, craft beer and suggestively-shaped baked goods.

Comedy series Portlandia gently ribs Portland's hipster credentials while maintaining a clearly high level of affection for their chilled-out city.

Despite being the smallest independent states in the world, Vatican City also happens to be home to some of the most amazing architecture and art on Earth. On top of this, it's set inside the larger and equally fantastic city of Rome.

The adaptation of Dan Brown's Angels and Demons gives a stunning look inside the home of Catholicism. Just try not to worry too much about Illuminati plotting and you'll have a lovely time.
